About Counselling...

Counselling is a talking therapy. I work on a one-to-one basis or with you together in the case of couples. This provides you with the opportunity to freely and openly express your thoughts and feelings with my professional, non-judgemental support, insight and encouragement, together with the assurance of complete confidentiality.

There can be many reasons why people seek help. It might be that you need someone to really listen and talk through life's experiences with or more specifically involve:

  •  Personal challenges and development - mid-life crisis
  •  Work related problems - unemployment
  •  Loss and bereavement - death

  • Sexuality
    • Counselling is a collaborative process that involves open conversation between the two of us as we explore your problems and difficulties to help you gain a better understanding of them, how they impact your life and what options might be open to you to help resolve them or strategies to help you cope better on a day-to-day basis. I will encourage and support you throughout the process by asking questions and offering different perspectives and insights, however I will not provide answers or advice.

      The aim is to help you gain a better understanding of yourself and how you interact with the world in which you live. Together we will try to help you identify and access your own inner strengths and resources so you may grow in confidence by learning how to utilise these to become more independent, gain a sense of control and develop a more positive outlook on life. I believe that ultimately we all have a choice and only you know what is right for you; therefore I will work with you to help you find your way.

      Talking therapy can take time and patience and due to our individual uniqueness we require different amounts of time to work through issues and difficulties. Consequently, some people might see me for a few weeks, whilst others may others may find a longer period more helpful.
